Introduction Letter

Dear Lafayette Community,

I hope this letter finds you well. It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the new principal of the Lafayette building. I am truly honored to be part of this wonderful community and am looking forward to working together with families and students in the coming year.

I bring many years of experience in elementary education with me. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of teaching kindergarten, first grade, and third grade. I also served as a reading interventionist, coordinated and instructed gifted and talented programs, worked as a curriculum specialist, and wrote grants. I have three years of experience as an elementary assistant principal. My experience has taught me that the heart of learning lies in building strong relationships and feeling connected to the learning community.

I am also the mom of four children: Caitlyn (16), Molly (14), Charlotte (11), and Milo (8). My husband, Chris, works in a private special education high school teaching Language Arts. I grew up in upstate New York and I love the outdoors. On the weekends you might find me at one of my kid’s sporting events, hiking, or kayaking.

I believe that together, we can create an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. This year one of my goals is to get to know you, your students, and your aspirations for our school. I look forward to meeting you at the Ice Cream Social on September 3rd.

Thank you for welcoming me into the Lafayette family. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!

In partnership,

Melissa Avgerinos
Principal, Lafayette School
