Update on Standardized Assessments for 2023-2024

Parents and Guardians:

During the 2023-24 school year, the New Jersey Department of Education requires all public school districts to administer the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments in grades 3-9 for ELA and Math and Grades 5, 8, and 11 for Science.  There may also be a small number of grade 10 students enrolled in a course required for graduation who may also be required to test this year.  We are also happy to report that Wayne Township will not be required to administer the NJSLA field test this year which will mean less testing time for students in ELA this year.

More information on the new high school graduation requirements can be found here and parent resources for the NJSLA assessments are available here

We ask for your assistance in getting your children to school on time, having them well rested, and having their chromebooks fully charged each day before school. Please send your child to school with headphones for testing if possible.

We are unable to allow students to enter the testing rooms once testing has begun. Failure to report to school on time will result in scheduling your child for make up testing. In addition, if you need to schedule appointments (e.g. doctor/dentist) for your child, we kindly ask you to try to do so around the testing schedule.

We have also put together a FAQ document which you can find HERE which discusses some questions you may have and details the state assessment policy on student electronic devices during testing sessions.

If you have any questions about the various assessments we are required to give, please reach out to your children's building principal or you can also email the district testing coordinator, Scot Burkholder, at sburkholder@wayneschools.com.
