Parents FAQ's

Q:
If my child is going to be absent, whom do I call?
A:
Call the school each day the child will be absent. All schools have voice mail for your convenience. Use the voice prompt to "report an absence." When your child returns to school, send a note listing the dates and reason for the absence.

Q:
What happens if my child becomes ill at school?
A:
Tell your child to report to the school nurse for an evaluation. If the nurse determines it is necessary to send your child home, you will be called based on the emergency numbers that you provided.

Q:
What if my child needs to take medication during the school day?
A:

All medications, including those prescribed by a physician, and patent/over-the-counter drugs including aspirin, are kept labeled and locked in the nurse’s office. Written permission from a parent/guardian or physician is required. Contact the school nurse if you require this service.

Children are not permitted to transport medication. A parent/guardian must deliver the medication to the nurse in the original container. Only FDA-approved medications will be administered.

Q:
What if my child loses something at school?
A:
Generally, recovered items are kept in the school’s main office at a "lost and found" location.

Q:
What if my child left something at home and needs it for school?
A:
The item may be delivered to the school’s main office. Students will be asked to come to the main office to claim the item.

Q:
How can I arrange for a conference with a teacher?
A:
E-mail the teacher in advance and ask for an appointment. (Teacher directories are available on each school’s website.) Or call your child’s school, in advance, and ask to arrange for a conference time that is mutually convenient.

Q:
What if I have a problem?
A:
For the most effective resolution, and as a matter of courtesy, a problem should be addressed at the school level prior to contacting central office.

Most problems can be resolved by speaking directly with a classroom teacher. Should this not resolve the problem to your satisfaction, make an appointment with the building principal. Should the situation remain unresolved, a written request should then be made to the Superintendent of Schools.

At any level of this process, providing in writing the nature of the problem allows the person(s) involved to collect the relevant data prior to meeting with you.
